Future farms is a family affair now leading into its second generation of professional horsemen. Kate and Doyle Dertell have been hugely successful within the horse industry as the principals of Future Farms. Both nationally winning trainers in halter and performance events, Kate and Doyle have taken Future Farms to international recognition since its inception. Along with their success as trainers, it’s as breeders that have brought Future Farms to the fore front on many levels of performance horses and show horses. Future farms have bred national and international stars in the show ring, endurance world and dressage arenas.

Now the second generation – Jessica and Kody Dertell are starting right where their parents left off in the competition arenas, both winning nationally in in-hand & ridden competitions as well as the endurance tracks! Jessica shows mainly the performance horses, being named as one of the youngest Australian National Dressage Team members ever and is a top contender for Olympic selection at the Paris ’24 games.  She has been riding and competing Grand Prix level dressage since she was 15 years old, competes at National level with her team of open hacks and is an open book endurance rider competing nationally and internationally.

Kody has been a more rounded horseman showing great ability and touch with halter breaking weanlings and starting young saddle horses for their first rides. He has also had great success in the ring with national and international titles in in hand classes, national wins in ridden classes especially in the stock horse and western disciplines, and multiple royal wins in open hacking.

Both Jessica and Kody Dertell look well set to continue the winning way of Future Farms into the second generation.

Mother & daughter dynamic duo… Sarah & Kelsey Middleton operate Kelsarni Farm just south of Perth.  Established in 2007 with the purchase of her first purebred Arabian, Sarah is well known for the meticulous presentation & quality of her horses, and the current show team includes Kelsarni Psyidah Flare (an original foundation mare), Hermes MI & Kelseys young gelding Noran Magnum’s Review.  The Kelsarni horses are consistently at the top of the lineup at every competition… a tribute to the hard work, dedication and passion that Sarah & Kelsey share.

With Kelsey now fully bitten by the showing bug, she already has a long list of achievements as a youth, showing horses for other successful teams and accumulating many National & Australasian Championships along the way on the east coast.

I’m an amateur dressage rider in WA and I’ve been riding since I was 13 – a long time ago!! My two current horses are : Diede Dieni – KWPN Mare by Spielberg. Achievements: 3rd PSG Deauville (France) CDI 2019, 2nd Intermediate 1 Deauville CDI 2019, 2nd Intermediate 1 Kur Deauville CDI 2019. 2023 Small Tour Champion WA State Dressage Championships. 2023 WA FEI Horse of the Year.

Intruder – KWPN Gelding by Connoisseur. 2021 Medium Champion WA State Dressage Championships.

For me Dressage is all about the training of the horses and not just the competition side of things. Ensuring that the horses are fit and supple enough to do the work in the tests and that they are mentally happy and willing to do the training. I love setting my own goals in the competition environment – a competition is just a test of my training.

I have a small property in the Swan Valley, WA region and look after my horses myself. I always look for products that are at the very least Australian owned and manufactured and are simple for me to use. Eziwash ticks all these boxes. Not only is it Australian own and made it’s made right here in WA. Using my Eziwash my horses have never looked or been cleaner! Eziwash makes washing a 17+ hand dressage horse super easy!! I love the fact that I use less product and I don’t see masses of product literally going down the drain. I even manage to stay drier whilst washing them!! Spot washing horses is also much easier now as I have much more control over where the product goes. Eziwash is simply a saviour to me!!

Zara is 15 years old & based in Sydney, NSW.  Eventing is her passion and she competes with her 2 enormous Irish Sporthorses Celtic Frolic (Envy) and Celtic Frost (Frosty).  Zara writes…

“I’m currently eventing at 1* level, heading for 2* with Frosty soon. Showjumping 1.10m and improving all the time.  I’m excited for this season, especially with my heart horse Frosty.

Owning two 17hh+ greys is hard work when it comes to keeping them clean! That’s why I love Eziwash EQ products, they make everyday grooming and comp day prep SO much easier!”
